Fastest way to burn off this fat?

I'm a 6'0" male and weigh 240 lbs. I'm getting into the routine of running a few miles at night. Will this help me get down to an ideal weight? How much running should I do a day if running is all I do? Lifting weights is not something I want to do. And what changes to my diet should be done?
