Using my cell in Canada?

I'm going to Canada tomorrrow and I'm wondering if my cell will work. I'd be calling someone who's on verizon like me and someone who's on a different plan. Also I would be texting. I have a regular verizon cell with unlimited texting and 1200 min. Would I have to pay extra or will it be okay? also if I bring my iPod or laptop is there a place I could get free wifi in Montreal??
