How to get rid of extra gums?

so, i got braces, and i had a little gap in my two front teeth, but once i got braces, it closed that. and all the gums that were in the middle of the gap just kind of chills in the back of the two teeth all smushed together. at first it was just kind of puffy and sticking out, but then it lifted off my teeth and is like half hanging off about 1/6 inch.. sorry! i know this sounds disgusting! but it hurts, and it's been a month since it's been there. please help! it isn't swollen, and it doesn't show any puffiness anymore, it's just THERE. and it doesn't show many signs of going away! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. any answers are GREATLY appreciated.
