Quebec Language law help please!?

Help ok so i am a new immigrant to canada from usa and we were moving to montreal to go to an english school but the school administration said no i would have to spend a certain time living out of quebec going to an English school in any other part of canada andi forgot how many years it was 1or 2 than i can go to montreal
